3D Modeling: Vectron Wave

For our ultimate final project, our Maya 3D modeling class instructor Dan Jensen wanted us to model the Air Hogs Vectron Wave. The toy is a flying UFO look alike and it runs on battery. When it is turned on, the Vectron propels and fly upwards, and it can also hovers above the ground.

It was by far the most interesting object I've seen in the class and it was also by far the hardest thing to model as it has tentacle-like features which has slopes that thins and swells out as it goes. The Vectron on most part is made of styrofoam, and only the cap part with the antenna are made of plastic, hence the shiny surface.

We were given two weeks to model the toy and for the last class, an ad picture of vectron has to be illustrated. It wasn't my best work, I have to admit. If I have a few more hours, I would have make the styrofoam look more like styrofoam texture and make the ad look more dynamic than below. Butt I tried my best! And have learn a lot from this project. It was fun but stressful while it lasted. I pat myself in the back when the teacher said we were the first class to attempt such a complicated object and we succeeded. :)
